Adipic acid is primarily used as a raw material for nylon 66 and engineering plastics. It is also used in the production of various ester products, as a raw material for polyurethane elastomers, and as an acidulant for various foods and beverages, sometimes outperforming citric and tartaric acids. Adipic acid is also used as a raw material for pharmaceuticals, yeast purification, pesticides, adhesives, synthetic leather, synthetic dyes, and fragrances. Adipic acid has a mild and long-lasting sourness and exhibits minimal pH fluctuation over a wide concentration range, making it an excellent pH regulator.
