Overview

Folic acid is the manufactured, stable form of vitamin B9 used in food fortification and supplements. It is supplied as a yellow-to-orange crystalline powder—not a white mineral or amino-acid powder—with an assay controlled at 97.0–102.0%. Its pH range, 4.0–4.8, helps buyers assess compatibility with premixes, tablets, capsules, and dry nutritional products.

For applications where quality matters, the material sets limits of ≤8.5% for loss on drying, ≤0.3% for residue on ignition, and ≤10 ppm for heavy metals. Specific limits also apply to arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead, and coliforms. Since folic acid is sensitive to light, it should stay sealed and shielded from light until formulation and packing.
